Often referred to as the Festival of Swings, it invites us to pause, reflect, and honour the power of love, prayer, and womanhood in a fast-paced world. This year, Teej holds deeper significance as it falls in the heart of the Shravan season, when devotional energy is at its peak.

With the monsoon in full bloom, nature itself seems to celebrate—lush greenery, cool breezes, and sacred songs echoing through homes. Women are not only observing customs but reconnecting with a narrative that celebrates inner strength, loyalty, and feminine grace.

This year’s Teej Mahotsav was celebrated across Delhi with traditional fervor, cultural dignity, and grandeur, adding that her greatest strength is the trust of the people, especially the women who see her as their representative and a medium through which they realize their dreams and rights.

Grand Celebrations at Dilli Haat Pitampura

The Government of Delhi, in collaboration with Delhi Tourism, organised a three-day Teej Mahotsav from 25 to 27 July 2025 at Dilli Haat Pitampura. The festival was inaugurated on Friday, 26 July by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta, alongside Hon’ble Tourism Minister Mr. Kapil Mishra, Delhi Tourism MD Mrs. Niharika Rai, GM Mr. D. Karthikayan, and other esteemed dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, CM Rekha Gupta highlighted that the initiative reflects the Delhi Government’s dedication to women’s empowerment, cultural vitality, and communal harmony. Mr. Mishra added that the festival offers visitors a vibrant experience of Delhi’s cultural spirit, filled with music, colour, and tradition.

The chief minister mentioned that around 80 stalls were set up to showcase traditional arts and crafts. These will feature handicrafts, ethnic wear, bangles, block printing, embroidery, mehndi, and traditional foods. Every day will include storytelling sessions related to Teej, aimed at enriching cultural knowledge and passing down traditions.

Tourism Minister Mr. Mishra echoed these sentiments, stating that the Mahotsav is a celebration that brings Delhi’s festive spirit to life through colour, music, and tradition.

Celebrating Womanhood and Creativity

Prior to the event, a preparatory meeting was held at the Delhi Secretariat with the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI). Women entrepreneurs and social media influencers contributed their ideas to make Teej Mahotsav 2025 more inclusive and engaging.

Minister Mishra reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Teej into a grand celebration of tradition, innovation, and womanhood. Entry to the festival was free for all three days, ensuring inclusive participation.

Dilli Haat, themed for Teej, offered a magical experience. Decorated swings, mehndi and bangle stalls, charming selfie zones, and festive décor drew large crowds. The venue was transformed into a vivid celebration of Teej, offering mehndi artistry, themed décor, selfie zones, decorated swings, and vibrant stalls featuring bangles and traditional crafts.

The opening day featured an enchanting musical performance by crowd favourite, Popular singer Jasbir Jassi, setting a joyful tone for the days ahead.

Activities included competitions in Mehendi, Bindi, and Rangoli, as well as slogan writing, musical chairs, and a special quiz on Teej. Additionally, there were cultural programs and a charming, electrifying set DJ presentation by Stuti Tiwari on the second day.

On the concluding day, July 27, a special “Women in Green” fashion walk was hosted, culminating in the selection of Miss Teej 2025. Ms Shivani Kashyap’s performance was enjoyed, and Miss Teej was selected.

Teej Festival, organized by Delhi Tourism, concluded with prize distribution. Thousands of women enjoyed this festival and had memorable moments in the festival. Many competitions were organized at the festival in which all the women participated enthusiastically and got prizes.

Families enjoyed a dedicated kids’ zone, swings, surprise gifts for women, and a delightful array of traditional foods and handicrafts, including live demonstrations of bangle making and pottery, and stalls selling delicious foods and handloom items.

Visitors enjoyed a digital experience at the venue, with at least three themed selfie booths, one with Augmented Reality (AR). A feature was AI-assisted mehndi design selection and on-site application.

Teej, joyously celebrated during the Hindu months of Shravan and Bhadrapada, is a festival steeped in devotion, elegance, and spiritual reflection. It marks the sacred union of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva, symbolizing love, strength, and marital harmony. Women across India come together in reverence, seeking blessings for conjugal bliss, family well-being, and the promise of eternal togetherness. Teej is observed through three main celebrations: Hariyali Teej, Kajari Teej, and Hartalika Teej.

Sweets

Hariyali Teej is especially lively, marking the arrival of monsoon with women dressed in lush green, singing folk songs, swinging beneath trees, and praying for their husbands’ longevity. Kajari Teej, prominent in North India, sees women express devotion through soulful ballads and traditional dances, while Hartalika Teej—held before Ganesh Chaturthi—commemorates Goddess Parvati’s unwavering dedication, with fasting and rituals led by women seeking strength and spiritual blessings.

Among these, Hariyali Teej stands out for its lush spirit. The green attire reflects fertility and renewal, while the rituals celebrate perseverance, feminine grace, and love. Hariyali Teej celebrates the sacred union of Shiva and Parvati, highlighting Goddess Parvati’s unwavering devotion. Married women fast and pray for their husband’s longevity, while unmarried girls participate in hopes of finding a virtuous life partner. Rituals such as wearing green, applying mehndi, and enjoying swings symbolise joy, commitment, and feminine grace.

Integral to the festivity are delectable sweets like ghevar, kheer, balushahi, shakkar para, and jalebi, which bring warmth and richness to community gatherings. More than a celebration, Teej reflects feminine resilience, cultural heritage, and the joyous rhythm of tradition passed through generations.
