



New Delhi : The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, addressed the 15th National Voters’ Day Celebrations in New Delhi today. She presented the Best Electoral Practices Awards to state and district officials for their exemplary performance in ensuring smooth elections. The President on the occasion also received the first copy of the book “India Votes 2024: A Saga of Democracy” from Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar.
In her address, President Murmu expressed pride in India’s democracy, highlighting it as the oldest, largest, most diverse, young, inclusive, and sensitive democracy in the world. She noted that many countries are learning from India’s election system and management.
she said “It is a matter of pride for all of us that our democracy is not only the oldest democracy in the world but is also the largest, diverse, young, inclusive and sensitive democracy in the world. She stated that India’s democracy is a unique example of the modern world. Many countries of the world are learning from our election system and management.”
The President said that the impressive glimpse of our inclusive democracy is visible in elections. The increasing participation of women in elections is an important sign of the overall development of our society and country.
The President emphasized the increasing participation of women in elections as a sign of societal and national development. She praised the Election Commission’s efforts to facilitate voting for senior citizens, differently-abled voters, and tribal voters in remote areas, setting an example of inclusive and sensitive election management.
President Murmu underscored the importance of the ideals and responsibilities associated with voting. She encouraged citizens to rise above narrow-mindedness, discrimination, and temptation, and to exercise their right to vote with full faith in democracy. Enlightened voters, she added, strengthen democracy. National Voters’ Day has been observed annually on January 25 since 2011 to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. The event aims to highlight the centrality of the voter, raise electoral awareness, and inspire active participation in the democratic process.
