DILIP GUHA, New Delhi : The National Science Centre (NSC), Delhi, a unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, successfully organised its annual Summer Vacation Hobby Camps for school students in May–June 2026.

The National Science Centre, Delhi, is a premier science museum under NCSM dedicated to promoting science education and communication through interactive exhibits, workshops, and outreach programmes that make science engaging and accessible to all.

The camps were conducted in two batches of five days each: Batch I from 25th to 29th May 2026 and Batch II from 1st to 5th June 2026. The programmes aimed to help students understand concepts of science and technology through hands-on project development.

Dinesh Malik, Senior Education Officer of NSC, said, “The Summer Vacation Camps are organised to foster creativity, Innovative thinking, and develop their motor skills to use tools and science gadgets under the guidance of experienced experts. Learning science through fun is a platform to make new friends outside the classroom. The center has a scientific environment to motivate them towards Science and technology, entice them to work in teams, giving opportunity to compete in projects. Their joy in completing projects and the smile on their faces is our biggest reward and satisfaction.”

This year, nine disciplines were offered: Scientific Toy Making, Astro Lab, Basics of Biotechnology, Wonder of Electronics with AI Tools, AI & Computational Thinking, Drone Making, Robotics, Gaming & AI, and 3D Printing. Participants were trained by experts. Students developed interesting projects across these fields. All students received study materials and were guided throughout the camp.

To enrich the learning experience, participants were given free access to gallery visits and facilities, including Science Demonstration Lectures, KOS, Holo Show, and the 3D Film Theatre. Participation certificates were awarded to all students who completed the camp.

Every great engineering breakthrough starts with a simple idea—and a curious mind willing to explore it. Nurturing this spirit of innovation, NSC organised an engaging Robotics Small Invention Session, which was also part of its Summer Vacation Hobby Camp 2026.

The hands-on workshop transformed young campers into budding roboticists as they explored the fundamentals of robotics through practical experimentation and creative problem-solving methods. Participants learned the basics of mechanics, motor controls, and circuit design before applying their knowledge to build their own functioning mini-robots from scratch.

More than just assembling components, the session encouraged students to think critically, test ideas, overcome challenges, and experience the excitement of turning concepts into working inventions. As motors whirred and robots came to life, the workshop became a vibrant demonstration of how imagination and technology can work together.

The highlight of the session was witnessing young innovators proudly showcase their creations—each robot reflecting the creativity, determination, and ingenuity of its maker.

Through such interactive learning experiences, NSC Delhi continues to inspire scientific temper, foster innovation, and encourage the next generation of engineers, inventors, and technology leaders.

Apart from the children’s activities, the parents and guardians accompanying them also took part in the free interactive sessions such as “Meet the Scientist.” These engagements provided them with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge while their children attended classes, turning the waiting time into a meaningful learning experience.

Scientist Praises National Science Centre’s Initiative to Connect Science with Society:

Dr. Parveen Saini, Scientist at the National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), expressed appreciation for the National Science Centre’s “Meet the Scientist” program after interacting with parents and members of the public during a recent session.

Speaking about his experience, Dr. Saini said the event provided a unique opportunity not only to guide parents regarding their children’s scientific aspirations but also to engage directly with individuals who contribute to society in meaningful ways.

He emphasized that the interaction highlighted the importance of individual social responsibility and allowed him to understand how citizens can play an active role in driving positive social change. According to Dr. Saini, the program offered a “dual benefit”—sharing scientific guidance while learning from community stakeholders about their perspectives and contributions.

The scientist noted that the response from participants was highly encouraging, with parents actively engaging in discussions and sharing valuable insights. He added that these interactions helped him communicate scientific concepts in a simpler and more relatable manner.

Describing the event as a rewarding experience, Dr. Saini expressed hope that the National Science Centre will continue organizing such initiatives to strengthen connections between scientists, society, and the general public.

“I am very happy to be here and hopeful that meaningful change will begin from platforms like this,” he said, underscoring the value of collaborative engagement between science and society.

The annual summer camps at NSC Delhi continued their tradition of promoting scientific temper and experiential learning among school students through interactive, project-based modules.
