“Yoga is not just a workout regimen. It is a comprehensive approach that nurtures the body, mind, and soul. With this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing,’ our goal is to show how yoga and lifestyle changes can greatly improve the quality of life as people grow older. Through consultations, classes, and workshops, we aim to motivate individuals to adopt preventive healthcare and wellness practices.”
Talking with this reporter, he emphasised the importance of disciplined living for healthy ageing. He said, “Today, on 21st June 2026, we celebrated the 12th World Yoga Day with the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’. Yoga is not only a form of exercise but a complete lifestyle that helps people live longer and remain disease-free. During today’s workshop, we discussed how proper diet, daily routine, yoga practice, natural healing, Ayurveda, and positive thinking can contribute to better health and longevity.
The most important factor in controlling ageing and maintaining good health is managing our food habits and lifestyle. We should eat only when hungry, follow a balanced and natural diet, drink water according to our body’s needs, and include fasting once a week in our routine. Fasting helps the body recover and prevents many diseases.
We also encouraged people to reduce stress through time management, prayer, and maintaining a positive mindset. Excessive use of mobile phones and technology should be avoided. By combining yoga, naturopathy, Ayurveda, and a disciplined lifestyle, we can achieve optimal physical and mental health.”
He explained, For good health and to control ageing, the most important thing is how you control your diet and daily routines. Dr. Sharma further emphasized disciplined living as the cornerstone of healthy ageing. He advised participants to follow a balanced, natural diet, eat only when hungry, and incorporate weekly fasting to aid recovery and disease prevention. He also stressed the importance of prayer, positive thinking, and reducing dependence on mobile phones and technology to minimize stress.
“In food, always pay attention — increase or decrease water intake according to age. Food should be sattvic, meaning it should not go against nature. Eat that kind of food. And adopt a healthy daily routine. Include prayer in it. Leave it to God — whatever is happening is good. Not every problem needs to be solved with worry. Often, the solution to a problem is that we have to let go of some things. So let go. If you think about things that trouble you, things that are negative, you will get stressed. To reduce stress, you need to practice time management. And do your important work with a positive attitude, and you will stay healthy. ”
“By combining yoga, naturopathy, Ayurveda, and disciplined living, we can achieve optimal physical and mental health,” he said.
The event concluded with an awareness session on healthy ageing and disease prevention, reinforcing the benefits of yoga and natural therapies. Hospital officials noted that such initiatives are vital in encouraging communities to embrace healthier lifestyles and enhance overall well-being.
