Ramayana-Themed Drone & Laser Show Enthralls Thousands
Dilip Guha | New Delhi : This Diwali, Delhi’s Kartavya Path transformed into a radiant corridor of celebration and culture, as the Delhi government hosted its first-ever Deepotsav at the iconic ceremonial boulevard. The two-day festival began with the lighting of 1,51,000 earthen lamps, creating a breathtaking spectacle of unity and devotion.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the event, sharing heartfelt moments with the public. She noted that children expressing joy over the permission to burst firecrackers reflected the festive spirit. She also highlighted how GST savings have eased household budgets, bringing relief to Delhi’s women, and how the city’s emergence as a concert-friendly destination has energized its youth. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, addressing the gathering, shared a heartwarming moment:
“Children have been joyfully saying, ‘Now we can burst crackers!’ Their happiness reflects the spirit of this festival.”
The event featured a Ramayana-themed drone show, where 1,000 synchronized drones narrated and painted the sky with scenes from Lord Rama’s journey, narrated through the eyes of Lord Hanuman. Accompanied by laser projection mapping and cultural performances, the celebration offered a mesmerizing blend of tradition and technology.

Gupta emphasized that initiatives like Arogya Mandir and Ayushman Bharat are benefiting lakhs of senior citizens, while the official celebration of Chhath Puja on the Yamuna banks has brought joy to Purvanchali communities. She also acknowledged the government’s efforts to support families affected by the 1984 Sikh riots, offering them long-awaited relief and employment opportunities.
Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra underscored the cultural and spiritual focus of this year’s Deepotsav, stating that the event not only enhanced Delhi’s beauty but also spread positivity and pride among its citizens. Alongside the glow of over 2,00,000 diyas, the festival showcased India’s rich heritage through immersive storytelling, cultural performances, and cutting-edge technology. The celebration was attended by several dignitaries, including Cabinet Ministers, Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, Delhi Tourism MD & CEO Niharika Rai, and GM D. Karthikeyan.

This Deepotsav also marked the first Diwali celebration under the BJP government in Delhi after 27 years. Previously, the Aam Aadmi Party hosted public Diwali events at Connaught Place, Akshardham Temple, and Thyagaraj Stadium. This year, Dhanteras was celebrated on October 18, Chhoti Diwali on the 19th, and Diwali on the 20th, with the public Deepotsav held on Kartavya Path on October 19. The colorful cultural program, blending tradition and innovation, left a lasting impression on all who attended.

As Diwali approaches, Delhi NCR transforms into a vibrant shopping paradise. Markets bustle with shoppers and vendors offering everything from handcrafted earthen idols of Lakshmi and Ganesh to dazzling home décor and festive sweets. Top destinations include Chandni Chowk, known for its traditional charm and Bhagirath Palace’s lighting options; Lajpat Nagar, a hub for trendy fashion and decor; Dilli Haat, offering authentic handicrafts and regional cuisine; Karol Bagh, ideal for budget-friendly shopping; Select Citywalk, with premium brands and festive sales; Atta Market in Noida, perfect for diyas and electronic lights; and Eros Market Place, combining shopping, dining, and entertainment under one roof.

Meanwhile, Kali Puja preparations are in full swing, with the Bengali community across Delhi NCR gearing up for the festivities. Various Durga Puja committees are actively involved in organizing cultural programs, setting up pandals, and coordinating rituals for the upcoming celebrations. In a delightful prelude to the season, the Sarbojanin Puja Samity of E & F Block, Chittaranjan Park, hosted Ahare Bahare—a vibrant cooked food competition that brought together home chefs and culinary enthusiasts. The event showcased traditional Bengali delicacies, community spirit, and the festive warmth that marks the lead-up to Kali Puja.
