DILIP GUHA ★ NEW DELHI : Kisaanka, a trailblazing initiative focused on agri-sustainability and rural innovation, formally launched its Delhi chapter on January 29, 2026, at Raja Rammohan Roy Hall, ITO, New Delhi. The event marked a major step in the organisation’s growing national presence, underscoring its commitment to strengthening farmer livelihoods and building climate-resilient rural communities. By integrating modern technology with traditional agricultural wisdom and strong community participation, Kisaanka aims to drive long-term, sustainable transformation in India’s agrarian landscape.

At a time when agriculture is undergoing rapid transformation driven by drone technology, customised software, and intelligent data services, Kisaanka has positioned itself at the forefront of this change. The agritech company is working across aquaculture, drone services, wastewater management, and bio-manure solutions, offering integrated and field-ready technologies that enable farmers to make faster, data-driven, and more profitable decisions directly at the farm level.

Kisaanka’s advanced drone services provide precise aerial surveillance, real-time crop health assessment, and detailed field mapping. These insights are supported by tailor-made software platforms that deliver actionable analytics, helping farmers optimise resource use, reduce input costs, and improve crop productivity. Through this data-driven approach, the company aims to make sustainable agriculture both practical and scalable.

Based in West Bengal, Kisaanka operates as a purpose-led agritech and sustainability startup that brings together innovation, education, and indigenous agricultural practices on a single platform. By working closely at the grassroots level, the organisation supports farmers, communities, and future generations through sustainable farming practices integrated with government and institutional ecosystems.

Kisaanka was born not as a business idea but as a realisation, said Shrestha Ganguly, Investor and Co-owner of the agritech platform. While travelling through villages during film shoots, Ganguly spent time with farmers and their families, listening to their stories and witnessing their daily struggles. What stood out was not a lack of effort, but a significant gap in access to knowledge, resources, and innovations that could truly reach the grassroots. Around the same time, co-founder Karandeep, who worked closely with rural communities, envisioned introducing agriculture to children in a meaningful way so that future generations would respect, value, and innovate in farming. This led to the creation of simplified agricultural books for young minds and eventually to the shared vision that became Kisaanka—bridging the gap between farmers and innovation, tradition and technology, and education and action.

Today, Kisaanka operates across multiple dimensions of agriculture, offering knowledge, educational content, practical solutions, and sustainable products to create impact where it matters most. The platform is incubated by IIM Calcutta and supported by NEIDP and the North Eastern Council under the Government of India, and has been recognised as the Best Agri Tech Startup by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. However, Ganguly emphasised that awards are not the end goal. “Our real success lies in the smiles of farmers, in children learning about agriculture with curiosity, and in communities that feel empowered rather than dependent,” she said. Marking its Delhi launch as a key milestone, she added that Kisaanka is not just an initiative but a responsibility—to farmers, to the soil, and to future generations.

The Delhi launch focused strongly on themes of sustainable agriculture, water innovation, and climate action. The event brought together policymakers, agricultural experts, environmental leaders, innovators, and grassroots representatives to discuss and promote collaborative solutions in these areas. Key initiatives showcased at the event included precision agri-tech solutions, waste-to-wealth bio-manure technologies, and the children-led Har Ghar Kisaan awareness programme.

The programme commenced with a nature-inspired awareness dance performance by Kolkata-based Avirup Sengupta & Troupe, symbolising the interconnectedness of soil, water, farmers, and the future of food security.

A key highlight of the launch was the unveiling of Kisaanka’s series of e-books on sustainable agriculture. These digital publications focus on soil health, water conservation, climate-resilient farming practices, and indigenous agricultural knowledge. Written in simple and accessible language, the e-books aim to bridge traditional wisdom with modern scientific approaches, making sustainable farming knowledge available to farmers, students, and agri-entrepreneurs across the country. The series also outlines Kisaanka’s key initiatives, including Kisaanka Ghee and the heritage Gaushala model, drone technology for soil health and precision agriculture, waste-to-wealth bio-manure solutions, and the organisation’s upcoming national activities and roadmap.

The event also introduced Har Ghar Kisaan, Kisaanka’s children-led agricultural awareness initiative. The programme is designed to nurture early understanding of food systems, farming, sustainability, and respect for farmers among young minds. Through interactive learning, storytelling, and hands-on activities, the initiative encourages children to develop an informed and respectful relationship with nature and agriculture, reflecting Kisaanka’s belief that long-term sustainability begins with early education.

One of the major highlights of the launch was a live demonstration of Boond, Kisaanka’s patented innovation that converts wastewater into drinking-quality water without the use of electricity or solar power. Operating entirely through human force, Boond demonstrated its practicality, efficiency, and real-world applicability, particularly for rural, water-stressed, and off-grid communities. Designed as a scalable solution, the technology addresses critical challenges related to water access and sustainability.

The launch also featured Organic Ghee produced at a heritage Gaushala using indigenous cow breeds and traditional bilona methods. Rooted in ethical, cruelty-free, and sustainable dairy practices, the initiative supports rural livelihoods while preserving India’s agrarian and cultural heritage. Through this offering, Kisaanka promotes mindful consumption and respect for traditional farming ecosystems.

He highlighted that one of the key challenges is mobilising people, as everyday routines often overshadow urgent issues such as water scarcity in villages. Emphasising awareness and collective responsibility, he noted the importance of unity and understanding our interconnectedness, and added that even small, consistent efforts can drive meaningful, transformative change.

Mr Souvik Chongder, Global Environmental Journalist

The initiative aims to build sustainable community clusters by fostering collaboration among organisations and institutions, ultimately improving the quality of life through shared action and responsibility. Ajit Kumar further stressed that many societal challenges can be effectively addressed when communities come together, recognising that no individual exists in isolation. He concluded by reminding citizens that, despite busy urban lifestyles, mindful and small contributions can lead to significant and lasting impact.

Souvik Chongder, a global environmental journalist and author with active networks across 53 countries, works closely on climate issues, global geopolitics, and research-driven advocacy, supporting governments in shaping effective policies to combat climate change.

Reflecting on the current global environmental landscape, Chongder observed that despite heightened awareness, world leaders remain locked in a cycle of delayed action on climate change, refugee displacement, and sustainable development. He noted that while initiatives exist on paper, inconsistent funding, fragmented policies, and a lack of coordinated global commitment continue to slow tangible progress.

According to Chongder, the consequences are visible on the ground, where many communities remain deprived of basic necessities such as food security, education, and infrastructure. He highlighted that weak institutional communication and stalled political agendas often leave engineers, researchers, and grassroots organisations struggling to convert policy frameworks into real-world solutions.

Calling for a shift in approach, Chongder emphasised the urgency of building stronger, more accountable networks of collaboration—both at the governmental level and among individuals. He stressed that environmental progress cannot be achieved in isolation and requires sustained, collective responsibility.

Looking ahead, Chongder outlined a vision for a “new world” rooted in sustainability, aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and empowered by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to strengthen community resilience, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
