Dilip Guha Sasraya News ★ Kolkata: Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys’ Academy, Narendrapur, organised The Purple Fair to commemorate the International Day for Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December 2025, earning widespread appreciation for its meaningful celebration of inclusion, accessibility, and empowerment.

The Purple Fair is organised to celebrate abilities, promote awareness, and encourage a more compassionate and supportive society for persons with disabilities. The colour purple stands as a global symbol of disability rights, dignity, equality, and empowerment. The Purple Fair aims to promote awareness, break down social barriers, and provide a dignified platform where children and individuals with disabilities can showcase their talents, creativity, and achievements. It serves as a reminder that societies grow stronger when they embrace diversity and uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals.
The Distinguished Guests present on the occasion were Smt. Surabhi Varma Garg, I.R.S., Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal & Sikkim, Mr Avinash Kapoor, Managing Director, Helvoet Rubber & Plastic Technologies (India) Pvt. Ltd., Shri B. Satyanarayana Raju, I.R.S., ADG, National Academy of Direct Taxes, Regional Campus, Kolkata, Revered Swami Ekachittananda Maharaj, Principal, Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur, and Assistant Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur, Kolkata
The event was organised in Collaboration with the National Academy of Direct Taxes, Regional Campus, Kolkata (NADT), Regional Campus, Kolkata. NADT contributed by partnering in the organisation of the event, encouraging officers and trainees to volunteer, and promoting inclusive initiatives that strengthen community engagement and awareness.
Principal of Academy Brahmachari Asimochaitanya expressed that this initiative will play a highly effective role in boosting the confidence and social participation of specially abled individuals. However, he added that if more people come forward to support such initiatives in the future, the path to self-reliance for specially abled individuals will become even smoother.

The programme commenced with Vedic Chanting performed by the students of Blind Boys’ Academy. The serene recitation created a sacred atmosphere, setting a tone of purity, peace, and auspiciousness for the day-long celebrations. The theme song ‘All power is within you’ that composed and sung by Dr Arup Biswas, Ex-Professor of History of RKMRC, along with the students of Blind Boys’ Academy.
In fact, the Ramakrishna Mission undertook this initiative to expand society’s acceptance of specially abled children. The day featured an impressive range of cultural performances, exhibitions, workshops, and competitive sports events for the blind, like Swimming, Chess, Cricket, Football, Judo, and Elocution (for all).
Many institutions, working in the areas of visual impairment, autism, learning disabilities, Down syndrome, intellectual disability, hearing Impaired and multiple disabilities actively joined and actively took part in the fair. These institutions displayed stalls showcasing their activities, creativity, artwork, and hand handwork of Children with Special Needs (CWSN). The students with visual impairment also participated in both sports and cultural programmes.

Institutions/Schools that participated were Pradip Centre for Autism Management, Autism Society of West Bengal, Arogya Sandhan Residential Care Home for Differently-Abled Persons, Vision Empower, Youth for Job, Vivekananda Mission Asram Residential School for the Blind, Light House for the Blind and Bhimbhar Snehaashram Dristihin Vidyalaya. Also, Children with Special Needs (CWSN) Students from BBA and Other Special Schools participated.
All participating institutions, dignitaries, volunteers, and supporters came together to make the Purple Fair 2025 a memorable success, showcasing the power of collective effort and shared vision. In their closing remarks, they emphasised that the spirit of inclusivity celebrated during the event must not remain confined to a single day, but should continue to inspire action and compassion throughout the year. The Purple Fair 2025 concluded on an inspiring and impactful note—reaffirming its commitment to building a more inclusive, compassionate, and empowered society.
