Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav’ begins at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Dilip Guha New Delhi : The second edition of the ‘Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is being held at Rashtrapati Bhavan to celebrate and showcase India’s rich diversity. This Mahotsav consists of seven distinct editions, each dedicated to a specific region: the North-East, South, North, East, West, Central region, and Union Territories. The Mahotsav is open to the general public from March 6 to 9, 2025, between 10 am and 8 pm.

 

 

This year’s celebration focuses on the Southern states. This Mahotsav presents before visitors the rich heritage and vibrant cultures of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. This festival will also provide a platform for artists, artisans, performers, writers, and culinary experts from these states to showcase their talents through cultural performances, handicraft and handloom exhibitions, literary enclaves, informative workshops, food courts, etc.

 

 

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the second edition of ‘Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav’ at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, March 5, 2025.

 

 

This edition will provide people with special insights into the vibrant cultural heritage of the five southern states of India.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that in the second edition of Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav, people would get to know about the vibrant cultural heritage of five states – Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh and two UTs – Lakshadweep and Puducherry the South Indian edition of the Amrit Mahotsav of Diversity.. She was happy to note that about 500 artisans and weavers are participating in this celebration.
They will display crafts ranging from Kanchipuram and Pochampally ikat to Etikoppaka toys. Many artists will also showcase the unique glimpse of South India through traditional folk dances and songs.
She urged on the occasion, “I urge people to participate in this festival, learn about South Indian art and culture, and spread it. The festival celebrates the prosperity and diversity of Indian culture and, alongside, also boosts the morale of all the artisans and artists.”
She said, “It is a matter of happiness for all of us that at the President’s House, everyone will be able to witness the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the southern states of the country. Along with this, we will all have the opportunity to closely know the skilled artists and artisans through their handicrafts, handlooms, folk dances, folk songs, cuisine, and more. I appreciate the efforts of the Central Minister of Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Ji, and his entire team for their participation in this endeavor.”

 

 

Unique traditions from different regions of the country are showcased at this festival. Last year, the first edition focused on the northeastern region of India. It was well received, and artisans and artists from all northeastern states were encouraged. The first edition saw the participation of thousands of visitors, artisans, and artists, who received a lot of encouragement with everyone’s participation. Along with cultural diversity, special attention is being given to inclusivity and social integration. With this vision, important steps like the organization of the Purple Fest and the opening of the Mitti Cafe have been taken to bring differently-abled individuals into the mainstream of development at the President’s House. Tribal community members and women from self-help groups are also invited here on various occasions.

She urged people to participate in this festival and learn about the art and culture of South India. It will also boost the morale of all the artisans and artists.
