Listen

New Delhi : The India International Trade Fair (IITF), held annually in New Delhi, is a prominent event that brings together diverse industries and cultural showcases. It offers a dynamic platform for business networking while also celebrating and supporting local artisans, ensuring a vibrant experience for all.

The India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) saw a larger participation than the previous editions at the 43rd edition of the IITF of ITPO held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

This year The Ministry for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Pavilion showcases its theme, “Green MSMEs,” emphasizing the Ministry’s dedication to sustainable practices and the integration of clean, green technologies. This initiative is a testament to the Ministry’s commitment to revolutionizing MSME operations by embedding sustainability at its core.

Through this initiative, the Ministry highlights the critical importance of adopting eco-friendly practices and innovative clean technologies. These efforts aim to reduce environmental impact while simultaneously driving economic growth, ensuring that MSMEs not only thrive but also contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.

On November 16, 2024, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), officially inaugurated the “MSME Pavilion” in Hall No. 6 at the 43rd India International Trade Fair (IITF) in New Delhi.

Key Objectives of the Green MSMEs Initiative:

Promotion of Sustainable Practices: Encouraging MSMEs to adopt environmentally responsible methods in production, energy use, waste management, and resource optimization. These practices aim to reduce carbon footprints and promote circular economies.

Adoption of Clean and Green Technologies: Facilitating the integration of innovative technologies that minimize pollution, enhance energy efficiency, and utilize renewable energy sources. This transition helps MSMEs align with global sustainability standards.

Capacity Building and Awareness: Providing training, resources, and information to MSMEs about green technologies and sustainable business practices. This helps entrepreneurs make informed decisions about transitioning to sustainable models.

Access to Green Financing: Offering incentives, subsidies, and access to green financing options to support MSMEs in adopting clean technologies. These measures ease the financial burden of transitioning to sustainable practices.

Encouraging Collaboration and Innovation: Promoting partnerships between MSMEs, research institutions, and technology providers to foster innovation in green technologies. Collaborative efforts ensure the development of cost-effective and scalable solutions.

Aligning with Global Standards: Positioning Indian MSMEs to meet international benchmarks for sustainability, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in global markets.

MSMEs are often significant contributors to industrial emissions and waste. By going green, they can play a pivotal role in addressing climate change and environmental degradation. Sustainable practices can reduce costs in the long run through energy savings, waste reduction, and enhanced operational efficiency. Many international buyers now prioritize suppliers with green certifications. By adopting sustainable practices, Indian MSMEs can expand their market reach.

On the fourth day of the exhibition, visitors flocked to the MSME Pavilion in large numbers. They were seen inquiring about the govt MSME scheme and making purchases of the merchandise on display and for sale.

The Pavilion features participation from 200 exhibitors, representing 29 states and union territories. Products on display include textiles, handlooms, handicrafts, leather footwear, toys, bamboo crafts, gems and jewellery, ceramics, and various mechanical items. The event provides Micro & Small Enterprises (MSEs), particularly those led by women, SC/ST entrepreneurs, and businesses from Aspirational districts, with a platform to showcase their offerings to a vast audience of potential buyers.

Reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive development, 71% of the 200 stalls are reserved for women entrepreneurs, and 45% are designated for SC/ST entrepreneurs at no cost. Additionally, 35% of stalls are reserved for entrepreneurs from Aspirational districts, with more than 85% of exhibitors participating for the first time.

The exhibit also spotlights the “PM Vishwakarma Scheme,” a flagship initiative launched on September 17, 2023, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This scheme provides comprehensive support to artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 traditional trades. This Scheme is a Government of India initiative aimed at supporting traditional artisans and craftsmen, commonly known as “Vishwakarma.” The program focuses on enhancing their skills, improving their livelihoods, and bolstering their contributions to India’s economy. 🍂-DILIP GUHA
