Sasraya News, New Delhi: The International Film Festival Delhi (IFFD) 2026, organised by Delhi Tourism, Government of Delhi, will commemorate the birth centenary of legendary filmmaker-actor Guru Dutt by screening his films in a special retrospective at Bharat Mandapam.

Scheduled from March 25 to 31, 2026, the week-long festival will host a diverse programme of screenings, panel discussions, and industry engagements across multiple venues in New Delhi. The event is expected to bring together filmmakers, industry leaders, and cinema enthusiasts from around the world, reinforcing Delhi’s growing stature as a global cultural hub.

The Guru Dutt retrospective aims not only to revisit his timeless body of work for long-time admirers but also to introduce younger audiences to one of Indian cinema’s most influential voices. By presenting his films in a theatrical setting, the festival seeks to recreate the immersive experience that defines his emotionally resonant and visually poetic storytelling.

The curated programme will feature some of his most celebrated works, including Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, and Aar Paar. Together, these films showcase the breadth of Guru Dutt’s cinematic vision—from noir-influenced narratives to deeply introspective explorations of love, artistic struggle, and social disillusionment.

Speaking about the retrospective, Festival Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra said, “Guru Dutt’s cinema continues to move audiences because of its emotional honesty and visual poetry. Marking his birth centenary through this retrospective is our way of celebrating a filmmaker whose work shaped the language of Indian cinema. Presenting Pyaasa in its restored 4K version ensures that new generations can experience this timeless classic as it was meant to be seen.”

He added, “We are grateful to Ultra Media & Entertainment for their support in making this retrospective possible. Their restoration work ensures that future generations can experience Guru Dutt’s cinematic brilliance in its most authentic form.”

Widely regarded as one of the most revered voices in Indian cinema, Guru Dutt seamlessly blended artistic depth with mainstream appeal. Decades after their release, his films continue to inspire filmmakers and resonate with audiences across generations.

The retrospective at Bharat Mandapam will offer a rare opportunity for cinephiles, industry professionals, and general audiences alike to rediscover these cinematic masterpieces on the big screen and celebrate the enduring legacy of a true auteur.
