A Fashion Extravaganza Celebrating India’s Handloom Heritage and Craftsmanship

Dilip Guha New Delhi : The office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, organized a fashion event titled “Breathing Threads” to celebrate the artistry of craftsmanship, honour a living heritage, and showcase the timeless elegance of Indian handlooms in contemporary designs. The show showcasing the timeless elegance of Indian handlooms in modern silhouettes attracted interested buyers from countries such as the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Kuwait, Chile, and Sri Lanka, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Textiles last Sunday. 

This event took place at the amphitheatre in Bharat Mandapam, as a part of Bharat Tex 2025 The Largest global textile expo. It was organized in collaboration with Vaishali S Couture and Vaishali S Threadstories Private Limited, Mumbai, and coordinated with the Handloom Export Promotion Council.

 

 

Vaishali S Couture is a 24-year-old brand committed to reviving traditional hand-weaving techniques and was presented on prestigious global luxury platforms through innovation, creativity, and exceptional quality.

The show carried fabrics woven in the villages from five different states including West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan and 20 models in 30 looks showcased these weaves, draped in seven different weaving techniques: Chanderi, Maheshwari, Jamdani, Khun, Benarasi, Kota Doria, Murshidabad. Each weave was creatively embellished with unique textures and cording.

The event not only highlighted the beauty of handloom but also underscored the brand’s mission towards sustainability and its zero-waste strategy. Indian hand-woven textiles, which embody the country’s rich cultural heritage, were reimagined in a modern and global context, bringing luxury fashion to the forefront.

The show was a tribute to the skill, hard work, and creativity required to create hand-woven fabrics. It demonstrated how traditional craftsmanship can be elevated to the status of a global luxury brand, showcasing the artistry and dedication behind each piece.

The beauty of Handloom and the mission of the brand is also its sustainability and zero-waste strategy, in line with what are the living habits of Indian villages. The show demonstrated the skill, hard work, and creativity required to create hand-woven fabric, showcasing how a craft can be elevated into a global luxury brand.

The Indian hand-woven textiles are the untapped wealth of the country, and it is just a question of showcasing them in a more modern and global language that will set them back to the most admired luxury fashion stages around the globe.

The event highlighted the power of Indian heritage textiles when presented with a global platform. Buyers from countries such as Australia, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kuwait, and Chile, as well as stakeholders from the Indian textile industry, were mesmerized by the event. This was made possible with the unwavering support of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms and the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The event was an outstanding success, showcasing the power of Indian heritage textiles when presented with a global appeal. It effectively demonstrated how these traditional fabrics can tap into the export market, especially in front of a discerning international audience.
