Nirupama Mondal
When I was born, they said I was Lakshmi,
A blessing to my family, a treasure to see.
As I grew older, they praised my beauty rare,
A beautiful girl, with skin so fair.
But now that I’m grown, with dreams and desires too,
They say I’m a burden, a weight to pull through.
But I ask myself, what am I, really?
Am I a blessing, a beauty, or a burden to be?
I am me, a unique soul,
With strengths and weaknesses, with goals to unfold.
I am not defined by what others say,
I am defined by my own heart, my own way.
